Taylor's Farm Shop: Delivering the UK's First On-Grid Paralleled TB125 System with DC Extension Cabinets

Immersa partnered with JWE Electrical Contractors to support the delivery of a high-capacity battery storage system at Taylor's Farm Shop, integrating BESS alongside several forms of on-site energy generation. The project represents the first on-grid paralleled AlphaESS TB125 installation with DC Extension Cabinets deployed in the UK. Two TB125 systems and two 261kWh extension cabinets provide a combined 250kW / 1,044kWh, creating a four-hour battery storage solution for the site. Unlike a conventional solar and storage project, the BESS operates alongside 190kW of AC solar, a 70kW BlueOrc steam system and a 50kW Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), allowing energy from multiple generation sources to be captured rather than exported.

Application:

On-grid BESS alongside multiple forms of on-site generation

Project Objective:

Capture excess on-site generation, prevent export and increase usable storage capacity

Core Benefit:

Four-hour BESS capable of charging from multiple forms of on-site generation

Challenge

Taylor's Farm Shop has a diverse mix of on-site generation. The challenge was therefore not simply to add battery storage, but to create a system capable of making better use of energy produced from several different technologies. Without sufficient storage capacity, excess generation could be exported rather than retained for later use. The project required a BESS that could: charge from multiple forms of on-site generation; capture energy that would otherwise be exported; provide significantly greater storage capacity; integrate with the site's new generation infrastructure; and operate effectively as an on-grid commercial energy system. The scale of the requirement also called for multiple TB125 units to operate together as a single coordinated solution.

Approach

  • Supplying two AlphaESS TB125 systems
  • Supplying two 261kWh DC Extension Cabinets
  • Engineering and technical integration support
  • Installation support for the BESS
  • Supporting the parallel configuration of the two TB125 systems
  • The addition of the extension cabinets increased the available storage capacity while retaining a 250kW combined power output, creating a four-hour BESS suited to the site's generation profile.

Solution

The completed system uses two paralleled TB125 units with DC Extension Cabinets to provide 250kW / 1,044kWh of battery storage. Rather than being DC-coupled to the site's solar PV, the BESS is integrated on the AC side and can charge from the site's different sources of generation: 190kW AC solar, a 70kW BlueOrc steam system and a 50kW Organic Rankine Cycle. This allows excess electricity generated across the site to be captured by the battery rather than exported, storing it for use when site demand requires it. With more than 1MWh of storage capacity against a 250kW output, the configuration also provides approximately four hours of battery duration, increasing the site's ability to shift locally generated energy across longer periods.

Results & Impact

  • The project has delivered a large-scale storage platform capable of bringing multiple forms of on-site generation together within one energy strategy
  • First on-grid paralleled TB125 installation with DC Extension Cabinets in the UK
  • 250kW / 1,044kWh total battery capacity
  • Four-hour BESS configuration
  • Integration with solar, steam and Organic Rankine Cycle generation
  • Greater ability to capture excess generation and prevent export
  • More than 1MWh of storage available for on-site energy optimisation

Value Delivered

  • Taylor's Farm Shop demonstrates the role battery storage can play on sites with more complex energy infrastructure.
  • By supporting JWE Electrical Contractors with product supply, engineering expertise and installation support, Immersa helped deliver a system that can capture energy from multiple generation technologies rather than relying on a single renewable source.
  • The project also provides a strong UK proof point for the scalability of the AlphaESS TB125 platform, showing how parallel systems and DC Extension Cabinets can be combined to create higher-capacity, longer-duration commercial BESS solutions.
