Hill Farm: Enhancing Existing Solar & Wind with Battery Storage for Maximum Energy Independence

Immersa partnered with Natural Generation Ltd to support the addition of battery storage at Hill Farm, a long standing customer site with existing solar and wind installations. The farm had already invested in renewable generation, with both rooftop solar and a wind turbine contributing to its energy mix. The introduction of battery storage was designed to build on this foundation, capturing excess generation and enabling greater energy independence.

Hill Farm: Enhancing Existing Solar & Wind with Battery Storage for Maximum Energy Independence

Project at a Glance

Immersa worked with Natural Generation to supply a battery solution that could integrate effectively with the existing renewable setup and maximise system performance.

Immersa's Role:

Battery supply and technical support

Location:

Cornwall

System Type:

Solar, wind + battery integration

Battery Storage:

AlphaESS UK G3-H30 / 72.3kWh

Existing Generation:

269.6kWp solar + 160kW wind turbine

DC-Coupled Solar into BESS:

47.94kWp DC

Project Objective:

Maximise on-site energy use and reduce grid reliance

Core Benefit:

Improved utilisation of renewable generation through storage

Challenge

Hill Farm was already generating a significant amount of renewable energy, but without storage, a portion of that energy was being exported rather than used on site. The challenge was to increase self consumption of both solar and wind generation, reduce reliance on grid electricity particularly during peak demand, integrate battery storage seamlessly with existing infrastructure, and provide a solution that worked reliably across varying generation conditions. The system also needed to support a site with a diverse and changing load profile, typical of agricultural operations.

Approach

  • Supplying the AlphaESS G3-H30 / 72.3kWh battery system
  • Providing technical support to ensure smooth integration with solar and wind generation
  • Supporting the installer with system setup and configuration

Products & Services

Products

Services

  • Technical support for system integration
  • Battery specification guidance

Solution

The installation of the battery system allows Hill Farm to store excess energy generated from both solar PV and the wind turbine. This stored energy can then be used during periods of higher demand or lower generation, improving overall system efficiency. By integrating storage into an existing renewable setup, the system now operates as a more complete energy solution: capturing, storing and utilising energy more effectively across the day.

Results & Impact

  • While final performance data is still being gathered, the system is expected to significantly improve how renewable energy is utilised on-site
  • Increased self consumption of solar and wind generation
  • Reduced reliance on grid electricity
  • More consistent use of renewable energy across the day
  • Enhanced overall system efficiency

Value Delivered

  • This project demonstrates how battery storage can unlock additional value from existing renewable assets. By supporting Natural Generation with the supply of AlphaESS's G3-H30 system, Immersa enabled Hill Farm to move closer to energy independence without requiring additional generation capacity.
  • It also highlights the opportunity for installers to revisit existing solar and wind sites and enhance performance through battery integration, delivering greater long term value for their clients.
It has been a real joy to work with Immersa and AlphaESS for the installation at Hill Farm. Lewis, Peter, Oliver and the team are so helpful, always quick to pick up the phone or reply to an email, and the technical support is excellent. Having an AlphaESS engineer come to commission the system as standard means that we can trust that everything will run smoothly from day 1. We look forward to working with Immersa and AlphaESS on many more projects in the future!
