Chynoweth Farm: Delivering One of the UK's First AlphaESS Stax-M50 Installations
As part of a long-standing delivery partnership, Immersa supported Natural Generation Ltd in deploying a commercial solar and battery storage system at Chynoweth Farm using AlphaESS's newly launched Stax-M50 platform. The project represents one of the first Stax-M50 installations in the UK and showcases the flexibility and scalability of AlphaESS's latest commercial and industrial battery technology. The scheme combines rooftop solar with a modular battery solution designed to maximise on-site renewable utilisation and improve long-term energy efficiency.

Challenge
The project required a battery solution capable of integrating efficiently with a large rooftop solar array while maintaining flexibility for future operational requirements. The challenge was to: maximise on-site use of solar generation; reduce reliance on imported grid electricity; integrate high levels of DC-coupled solar efficiently; and deliver a scalable solution suited to future expansion. Natural Generation required a modern battery platform that could support these requirements while remaining simple to integrate and monitor.
Approach
- Supplying the new AlphaESS Stax-M50 / 144.6kWh system
- Supporting integration of DC-coupled solar into the BESS
- Providing technical guidance around modular system configuration
- Assisting with monitoring and system communication setup

Solution
The completed installation integrates a 100kWp rooftop solar array with the AlphaESS Stax-M50 battery platform. Of the total solar capacity, 85kWp is DC-coupled directly into the 50kW inverter, with the remaining 15kWp connected through an AC string inverter. A key advantage of the M50 platform is its 200% DC-coupling capability, allowing up to 100kWp DC input into the 50kW inverter. This enables significantly higher solar utilisation and improves overall system efficiency within constrained connection environments. To meet the project's required capacity, the system utilised 12 x 12.05kWh battery modules installed onto a single stack/base configuration. The installation also incorporates an additional generation meter and RS485 data cable integration, allowing the system to be monitored centrally through the Alpha Cloud platform.
